Apothecary Peel Guide
Pre Peel
skin consultation is required
you must have an active skincare routine before having a resurfacing peel
a Signature or Bespoke Facial is recommended before a resurfacing peel
Post Peel
1-6 DAYS POST-PEEL
Redness may linger for several hours after a treatment.
Not every person will experience peeling after a treatment.
Flaking for several days is normal.
Avoid elevating your body’s internal temperature. If the body’s core temperature becomes too high it can cause hyperpigmentation.
Do not apply ice to areas treated with a chemical peel as this can cause irritation.
Avoid any excessive exfoliation. This includes loofahs or rough use of towels or washcloths to treated areas.
Avoid any activities that causes excessive perspiration.
Avoid sun exposure and swimming.
Avoid makeup after treatment to allow skin to normalize.
The pace at which the skin peels is individual and it depends on how intense the peel was.
You can expect major peeling to last for 2-5 days from when it starts, and some minor peeling may be visible for a bit longer than that.
Treat skin delicately and avoid any harsh products not recommended by your esthetician.
7-14 DAYS POST-PEEL
your skin may look flaky or peel, and discolorations or imperfections may temporarily be more noticeable
Do not pick at or pull any loosening skin. Allow the skin to fall away naturally to avoid hyperpigmentation from forming.
all side effects should start to subside, and your skin should begin to look and feel “normal”
you’ll see the formation of healthy, new skin, but you may notice some redness or skin that is darker or lighter than usual for up to a month
Continue to avoid sun exposure. Wear Spf and Hats when possible
Avoid waxing or hair removal for for 14+ days post treatment.
Avoid Makeup as much as possible
PRODUCT USE
To maximize the results of your peel, please follow your treatment with products recommended by your esthetician.
Moisturize – Apply moisturizer at least twice a day to promote the healing process and protect the skin. Even if you typically have oily skin and only use a light moisturizer, you may need to use a good, thick moisturizer as your skin recovers following a chemical peel.
Apply moisturizer every morning and night. Extra application of moisturizer can be used during the day to help minimize the appearance of peeling or flaking skin.
Skip the exfoliant – Chemical peels are exfoliating, so you don’t need to use any exfoliant for the first two weeks after treatment. That includes avoiding the use of exfoliating brushes and scrubs as well as cleansers or toners that contain a chemical exfoliant.
Avoid the use of topical prescription creams (such as tretinion, Retin-A and Differin)
Make sure your esthetician is aware of any prescription medications.
Avoid any further treatments until your skin is fully healed. (at least 14 days)
