FAQ- SkinCare

How offten should I get a facial?

The unpopular answer is "it depends." Once a month would be ideal but I know we don't always have that kind of time. If you can't make it in every month, I highly recomend coming in at least every 3 months since our skin changes with the seasons. If your skin is in need of some real healing and revidalization then you might need a treatment plan of every 2-3 weeks depending on what's going on and how quickly you want to address your skin concerns.

What is gua sha and why do I need it?

Facial gua sha is a massage technique designed to relieve tension in the muscles of the face, boost blood circulation, and encourage lymphatic drainage to banish bloat. It helps break up fascia, the connective tissue that hugs muscles but can sometimes interfere with optimal circulation. People say that gua sha gives their skin structure a lifted appearance, with more defined cheekbones and de-puffed cheeks. Gentle use can also reduce under-eye bags. While it is great to get a gua sha massage during a facial it is even better do continue the practice at home. Gua sha is something that can be done 2-3 times a week as a self care treatment while you're binging whatever new show's on netflix. If you want to see a dramatic difference in your skin be consistant with your facial massage.

What is Nano Needling?

I use a mechanical pen that has a nano-needle cartridge on it much like a microneedling pen. Nano-needling stimulates collagen production in the skin by safely infusing active ingredients from your serum through tiny nano-channels. This treatment combats fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation, and other skin blemishes through the transdermal delivery system for increased effectiveness of serums. There is no downtime with nano needling and it's very unlikely that you will experience any redness or swelling.

What is Microcurrent?

Think of it as your face going to the gym for a workout. Microcurrent Facial Toning is a non-invasive, low level current of electricity that mirrors the body’s own natural electrical impulses that stimulate ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which contributes to the body’s healing and rejuvenating properties. This results in strengthening, firming, toning, and relaxing of the muscles. Improved blood flow increases the supply of nutrients to the tissue and muscle fibers. By improving blood circulation the overall health, function and appearance of the skin is greatly enhanced.

What do I need to know about the Apothecary Peels?

If you are concerned about dullness, aging, acne, and want brighter, smoother skin, then a resurfacing treatment might be the way to go. In as few as three treatments, peels can reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines, smooth skin texture and reduce the appearance of breakouts. Using controlled wound healing the peel solution will stimulate the body's natural response to heal itself. This peel will dissolve dead skin cells and stimulate healthy new skin cells. There is some down time to peels because well… your skin is more than likely going to visibly peel. The first 10 days are a journey; the skin will most likely get very tight and dry looking, it will begin to pull damage to the surface, sometimes making the skin look darker or accentuating your fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on your skin's reaction to the peel your skin might sluff off like a snake; not the cutest experience but you’ll thank me by day 11. If you are cold sore prone you must be on a cold sore inhibitor like Lysine at least 1 day prior and 5 days post peel to prevent cold sores. Discontinue retinoids 5 days prior to peel. This treatment is best for people wanting to address sun damage, melasma, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, breakouts, large pores, and rosacea. By doing a series of peels we will not only repair the cells but build a healthy skin barrier to help protect your skin from further damage. Peels are great to do in the fall and/or spring.

What is High Frequency?

High frequency facials use a safe, oscillating electrical current to kill bacteria, stimulate cellular regeneration, and unleash a variety of other benefits to improve the health and appearance of the skin. When applied to the surface of the skin, a mild electrical current passes through the neon, or argon gas filled glass electrode, causing it to emit a subtle glow and buzzing noise. Depending on the inert gas that they are filled with, the electrodes produce either a neon red/orange or violet/blue light. Traditionally, acne prone skin is treated with violet and aging skin is treated with red. High Frequency is good for those with skin concerns such as acne, large pores, or fine lines and wrinkles.

What is LED Therapy?

LED light therapy is a noninvasive skin treatment for acne, sun damage, wounds, and other skin issues. LEDs have shown promising results in wound healing and human tissue growth. LEDs have different wavelengths which penetrate the skin at different depths. The penetration of light can trigger biological processes that help the skin rejuvenate and stimulate the healing process.

What is Ultasonic?

Ultasonic machines use Ultrasound waves. These waves penetrate the skin to cleanse, hydrate, increase circulation, promote collagen production, and kill bacteria. Sound vibrations thoroughly loosen debris from follicles and gently lift dead surface skin cells, deep cleaning pores and exfoliating without irritation.

What is the ila-spa sonic wave?

The ila-sonic wave distributes product on the face and neck, helping the serum penetrate into the deepest layers of your skin to deliver long-lasting hydration so that skin appears plump and firm. It Features three LED light settings: 'Red' to minimise the look of wrinkles and increase skin elasticity, 'Green' to calm redness and inflammation and 'Blue' to rebalance, refine and reduce the appearance of blemishes.

What is a Hydrojelly mask?

A Hydrojelly™ mask is a "jelly-like" mask that provides multiple benefits to your skin such as hydration, smoothing, moisturizing, cleansing, exfoliating, conditioning, toning skin, and reducing inflammation. I carry a number of Hydrojelly masks in the studio and will chose what is best for you basedb on the skin concerns we are treating.

What is a lash lift?

Think perm for your eyelashes. We relax the lash hairs, style the lashes using a curling rod, and then we use a setting solution to keep them in place. after we have lifted the lashes we tint them using plant based dye to give the lashes that final pop. It's glorious! This is probably one of my favorite services to have done on myself. The results typically last four to six weeks, depending on how quickly your eyelashes grow.

What is Brow Lamination?

A perm but for your eyebrows. Much like a lash lift the hairs are relaxed, styled and then set in place. This treatment can last from 4 to 6 weeks generally, with proper care allowing the brow treatment to last as long as 8 weeks.
